In December 1957, the Envoy, a 150 room hotel opened across the road from the future Diplomat resort as the start of the Diplomat resort complex.
On December 17, 1958 the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club was opened by Samuel Friedland with a 18-hole golf course designed by Red Lawrence.
In December 1960, the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club opened a 9-hole golf course called the Gulfstream Par 3, and therefore 18-hole golf was now known as the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club - Diplomat golf course.
In December 1962, the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club opened its third golf course called the Presidential golf course.
By the late 1960s, the Gulfstream Par 3 golf course was closed.
In 1997, the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club property was sold and the new owners hired Joe Lee to totally redesign the Diplomat golf course.
The Presidential golf course was sold in 1998, leaving only the Diplomat golf course as the only golf course remaining in the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club facility.
The Diplomat golf course reopened after it's Joe Lee redesign on March 15, 2000 as The Country Club at The Diplomat.
In August 2001, The Country Club at The Diplomat was renamed as the Diplomat Country Club & Spa.
In 2014, after the closure of the hotel on the golf course, the facility was renamed to the Diplomat Resort & Spa - The Diplomat Golf & Tennis Club.
