The Key Biscayne Hotel and Villas was opened in early 1951 by Elliott, Robert and Frank Mackle which was the first resort on the island of Key Biscayne. By late 1951, Key Biscayne Hotel and Villas Pitch and Putt Golf Course opened as a 9-hole, par 3 pitch and putt golf course which was designed by Mark Mahannah.
In the 1960s, another 9 holes was added was added to the Key Biscayne Hotel and Villas Pitch and Putt Golf Course.
Over the years, the Key Biscayne Hotel and Villas hosted many famous celebrities and politicians. The Mackle family sold the hotel in the late 1970s and the hotel was closed in December 1987.
