The 9-hole Belle Glade Municipal Golf Course opened in the late 1960's and was built on land donated by Ernest Van Landingham.
In July 1989, after several years of effort, an additional 9 holes were opened and were designed by Karl Litten. The original 9 is now the front 9, and the newer 9 is the back 9.
In February 2008, the course was renamed as the Sugarcane Golf Club.
